About the work

The artist's work puts security and certainty into their rightful place; provides clarity around it and thus encourages to a natural life process of renewing ones worldview. After a catastrophe; but also prior to one.

In unsecured mode

In the face of dramatic events threatening democracy worldwide, on July 21, 2016 the renowned weekly newspaper the time was tittle ‚what we can still rely on.‘ In the following political commentary with this headline, the summary concluded: „To the venture to re-understand this world bringing elucidation from with in."

Disaster sharpens perception.

One remembers.

Late.

A delusional idea of a secures status

That nothing is more endangered than security, nothing more life endangering than the delusional idea of a secured status; it is exactly this awareness which is the tenor playing a significant and pressing tone in Wehner’s work embracing the past five decades.

The artist is a magician and a disenchanter (great magic uses little things and a masterfully dominated form). His objects are described in detail in numerous publications.

Archaic yet vulnerable

Archaic shapes, formed of time-saturated materials and appearing to be called by secret knowledge into the present: As strong and invulnerable they present themselves, as fragile and vulnerable they are.

And the more vulnerable, the more unapproachable they seem.

Deceiving appearances

The watchful eyes are on the creations of Wehner's hand, powerful and modest, with a synopsis which in many ways reveals the artist’s impressive life’s work: what seems heavy is light, what presents itself as light is heavy; the appearance always deceives.

Wehner's work puts security and certainty into their rightful place; provides clarity around it and thus encourages to a natural life process of renewing ones worldview. After a catastrophe; but also before.
